Dear Friends,
It was great to see over 1,100 Democrats this Saturday at our Johnson-Rayburn-Richards Dinner. It was a record breaking effort for our party and I am very proud of the great people who made this possible.
During the program, our Coordinated Campaign presented a video that looks at the Republican record here in Harris County. I thought you would be interested in what really is at stake in this election, and why it is important for our folks to vote down the ballot and vote Democratic:
If this video has inspired you as much as it has me, I’d like to ask you to join with other Democrats in Harris County in donating $20.08 to the Coordinated Campaign. Your gift will help us do the following on election day:
Pay for 7 “Vote Democratic – Be The Change” yards signs for polling locations
Pay for a phone line for our volunteers to phone bank Democratic supporters
Pay for 200 pieces of Early Voting literature to help get our voters to the polls
I hope you will remember why we work so hard, and thank you again for all the hard work you do. Early voting is right around the corner, and we are very proud of our progress.
Hear Dr Richard Murray from the University of Houston give us detailed information on Harris County and Nov 4 Election. Don’t miss it - Bear Creek Community Center on Thursday, October 2nd at 7PM
The August meeting of the WHDC will be Saturday, August 16th at the Tracy Gee Community Center. The meeting starts at 10am. Come early, socialize and feed the Donkey.
Our speaker will be Jim Henley. As a philosopher once said, “Jim don’t need no stinking bio.”
Save the date August 19th for a great Katy Democratic Meeting. We will have two super speakers. First is Chris Bell, candidate for State Senator, District 17 which includes most of Katy. He’ll discuss his plans for changing the Texas senate. Our second guest speaker, Dr. Joseph Bak’s presentation is titled “National Health Insurance: Everybody In, Nobody Out.” The tragedy of our current health care system is that tens of millions of people in this country go without health insurance. Over 22,000 adults die annually from treatable conditions due to a lack of health insurance. We spend almost twice as much per person on health care as every other industrialized country on the planet. Yet other countries have found various ways to provide their people with universal, comprehensive health care services and we have not. This talk will describe in easy to understand terms how we got here and what needs to be done to provide everyone with comprehensive, cost-effective affordable health care.
Joseph S. Bak, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist in private practice in Houston, Texas. His interest in the area of healthcare system reform began in the early 1990’s having become aware that tens of millions of people were either uninsured or underinsured at that time. Since then he has been a frequent presenter and author of various articles regarding the merits of single payer universal healthcare. He is a member of Health Care for All Texas www.hcfat.org and Physicians for a National Health Program www.pnhp.org.Harris County Coordinated Campaign activities: Request your yard sign and Sign up to help contact voters in your precinctRayburn, Johnson, Richards Dinner.
