Thoughts on the West Side Opening
Posted August 6th, 2008 by beth in Blogs, CC Blog with tags Campaign Offices, West Side.Considering the turnout at the Westside office opening on August 2nd, you’d have thought there was an open bar. And come to think of it, the spirits were better than top shelf! More than 250 people crammed themselves into what quickly went from a quiet office filled with computers and phone lines into an energized crowd ready to elect some Democrats. I’ll say this: when this many people show up ready to work to defeat Republicans on Houston’s Westside, you can bet 2008 will be a good year!
Candidates from all over the county came to mingle with voters and volunteers. Representative Scott Hochberg opened the floor up to Democrats like State Representative Hubert Vo, State Rep Candidate Kristi Thibaut, State Senate candidate and former Congressman Chris Bell, and Congressman Al Green. After captivating words from Congressman Green, Larry Joe Doherty’s comments on the upcoming election had everyone rolling with laughter. Everyone was smiling . . . except Michael McCaul (Larry Joe’s opponent). Every speaker had something to say about the current political climate in Harris County changing faster than the Texas weather. Hopefully that means “Blue Skies” to come.
In the wake of Saturday’s event one thing is for sure, Harris County is ready for Change. I think it’s safe to say everyone left feeling excited and energized by the conviction to witnesses to a historic shift as Democrats will sweep Harris County. Check out our flickr page, where we have tons of photos of your candidates and spectacular turnout.
