More than 1,100 excited, enthusiastic, fired-up-and-ready-to-go Democrats attended the Johnson-Rayburn-Richards dinner Saturday night. Keynote speaker General Wesley Clark gave a rousing address describing the multiple crises of the Bush years and how they were the result of a fundamentally flawed and decidedly wrong-headed political philosophy. He emotionally urged all Democrats to work tirelessly from now through election day to impress upon their friends and neighbors the urgent and imperative need for change. Harris County Democratic Party Coordinated Campaign staffer Dan Derozier, assisted by coordinated campaign general manager Bill Kelly, prepared an extraordinary video for the Johnson- Rayburn-Richards dinner. The video chronicles the travails and then the rise and accomplishments of Democrats in Harris County from 2003 to today, the excellence of the 2008 Democratic ticket in Harris County, and the tremendous prospects for victory this November. The deadline for reserving places for the October 4, 2008 Johnson-Rayburn-Richards Dinner is nearly upon us. The hotel must be told by Wednesday, October 1, how many people will attend and seating assignments and other arrangements must be made very soon.
Retired Army General Wesley Clark, former Supreme Allied Commander Europe and former Democratic presidential contender, will be the featured guest and keynote speaker at this year’s dinner. General Clark graduated valedictorian of his West Point class and is a former Rhodes Scholar. He spent 34 years in the Army, winning numerous awards and medals, including the Presidential Medal of Honor.
The Johnson-Rayburn-Richards Dinner will be held on Saturday evening, October 4, at the Galleria-Westin Hotel, commencing at 6:00 o’clock p.m. The theme for this year’s event is This Is Our Time. Chris Bell will serve as master of ceremonies, and event chair Herman Litt and his committee have an exciting and energizing evening planned.
