Presidential Debate-Watching Events this Friday

Dear Fellow Democrats,

Harris County is slowly but surely recovering from Hurricane Ike, and good folks like you have been front and center in helping your fellow residents of Harris County through these tough times. Since it may be a long time before life returns to normal for many, and though politics has — with good reason — been pushed to the back of people’s minds, some of our friends and neighbors might miss one of the most important events of this political season: the first presidential debate this Friday, September 26th.

With the same spirit of community and unity shown by Harris County residents after the storm, the Harris County Democratic Party would like to open our offices and extend an opportunity to everybody, those of us with utilities and those of us without, to come together and watch the first presidential debates with us.

One of our debate-watching gatherings will be at Cotton Exchange, 202 Travis Street, Suite 100, Houston, TX 77002 (map) at 7:00pm this Friday, September 26. There will also be events at our Westside office and our Bay Area office, both starting at 7:00pm.

Make sure you extend this invitation to people you know without power! The last week has been hard for all of us, and we all deserve a break to see what’s happening on the national scene.

HCDP in the News: Houston Democrats Cheer for Obama

Posted August 29th, 2008 by admin in Blogs, CC Blog with tags , , .

Click2Houston has a great story up about our hugely successful official Celebrate Obama Watch Party held last night at the Renaissance Hotel. We had an amazing turnout - it was truly an inspiring sight to see hundreds of Houston Democrats come out to raise the roof in support of the Obama-Biden ticket (and raise money for the Coordinated Campaign) and watch Senator Obama simultaneously make history, lay out his agenda, reinforce his call for change, and silence his detractors.

Thanks to the Stonewall Democrats for throwing the event!

Channel 2: Local Democrats Optimistic with Obama

With the Democratic Convention in full swing, Click2Houston has a story about how energized and motivated Democrats in Harris County are.

“We’ve seen what our leadership has done and we’re not happy with it, so I think you’re going to see that energy not only in Denver but definitely here in Harris County locally,” said Bill Kelly with the Harris County Democratic Party.

For longtime party volunteer Karen Kaufman, the amount of enthusiasm and confidence is noticeably higher this election cycle.

She senses the attitude change with every phone call she answers at the party’s headquarters and every time she hands out a yard sign to a voter.

“The time has come. It’s our time now to be able to promote some of our Democratic ideals with statewide candidates and with our judicial candidates,” she said.
