HCDP in the News: Houston Democrats Cheer for Obama

Posted August 29th, 2008 by admin in Blogs, CC Blog with tags , , .

Click2Houston has a great story up about our hugely successful official Celebrate Obama Watch Party held last night at the Renaissance Hotel. We had an amazing turnout - it was truly an inspiring sight to see hundreds of Houston Democrats come out to raise the roof in support of the Obama-Biden ticket (and raise money for the Coordinated Campaign) and watch Senator Obama simultaneously make history, lay out his agenda, reinforce his call for change, and silence his detractors.

Thanks to the Stonewall Democrats for throwing the event!

Democratic Movie Screening: Last Man Standing

Posted August 28th, 2008 by daniel in News with tags , .

Update: Seats still available!

Join the Harris County Democratic Party and Special Guest Representative Patrick Rose on Tuesday, September 9th as we screen “Last Man Standing: Politics Texas Style” at Studio Movie Grill located at 8580 Highway 6 NorthHoustonTX  starting at 6:30 pm (MAP). In 2002, Patrick Rose accomplished the very thing we are working toward by  defeating ethically plagued Republican Rick Green in a heavily Republican district.

“Last Man Standing” chronicles Representative Rose’s 2002 race.  As this unique film documents, Rep. Rose did the hard work of block walking, phone calling, and fundraising that it takes to win, even in a tough election year for Democrats.  The film has become an inspiration to Democrats across Texas.  Now, we are faced with the same opportunity across Harris County: replacing corrupt Republicans with experienced, hard working Democrats who will not forget the people they represent. Come and meet your friends and neighbors who want to change the direction of our country, state, and county.  We will need eveyone’s help to change our leadership from the White House, to the State House, to the Courthouse!

On Tuesday, September 9th, the HCDP and the Coordinated Campaign come to Northwest Harris County.  Doors open at 6 p.m. with Special Guests and Candidates speaking at 6:30. Space is limited, but seats are still available! RSVP to Ryan Slattery at ryan@hcdp08.org.  Tickets range from $15 for adults to $10 for students.  All proceeds go to assist the efforts of the Coordinated Campaign and make sure we have the resources we need to Turn Harris County BLUE!

McCain Young Dems Happy Hour - Sept. 4

Posted August 28th, 2008 by daniel in News with tags , .

Come show your support for Barack Obama and the Democratic vision for America’s future at a John McCain Happy Hour with the Harris County Young Democrats on Thursday, September 4 at 8:00pm to 9:30pm. We’ll be meeting at Home Plate Bar & Grill, 1800 Texas St., Houston, TX (map).

While John McCain is accepting the Republican nomination on Thursday, September 4, join your fellow young Democrats and proudly stand up to John McCain and his plan for four more years of failed Republican policy. With 80% of Americans saying this country is on the wrong track, John McCain has nothing to offer but more of the same.

Come have a good time with your young Democratic friends and neighbors, and show your support for Democratic Candidates.

Democrats in Denver for Obama/Biden

Posted August 27th, 2008 by daniel in News, Turn Texas Blue with tags .

As Day 3 begins for this year’s Democratic National Convention, Democrats are energized like never before.  From Senator Ted Kennedy and Michelle Obama on Monday night, to the amazing and historic address last night by Senator Hillary Clinton, our convention is must watch TV.

The DNC has set up www.demconvention.com as a great resource to watch the convention live, view previous speeches, and access lots of behind the scenes information.  The High Definition video definitely makes the convention come to life on your laptop.

Tonight, not only do we hear from former President Bill Clinton, but the nation will hear from our next Vice President, Senator Joe Biden.  Tapped by Senator Barack Obama on Saturday to join him on the ticket, Senator Biden brings a wealth of foreign policy experience.  He also helped author legislation to put more than 100,000 additional police on the streets, passed the Violence Against Women Act, corporate corruption bills, and anti-torture legislation.

Married to a teacher, Biden has three children, one of whom currently serves as the Attorney General of Delaware and will be deploying to Iraq in September to serve a tour of duty in the Army National Guard.

Biden was also the keynote speaker at the Harris County Democratic Party’s very first Johnson-Rayburn-Richards dinner in 1980.  Let’s work hard for the Obama/Biden ticket and all Democrats up and down the ballot this fall!

Official Obama Watch Party August 28th!

Posted August 27th, 2008 by daniel in News, Turn Texas Blue with tags , .

Four years ago, Obama burst on the scene with the speech of a lifetime. Now, he will make the speech of our lifetime — Barack Obama accepting the Democratic nomination for President of the United States!

This is not a speech to watch at home. This is a moment to share with hundreds of other Texas Democrats! You will not want to see news clips of our festivities from your sofa.

Share this historic moment with other Democrats and help benefit the Harris County Democratic Party! On Thursday, August 28, at 7 pm, the Stonewall Democrats present the OFFICIAL Harris County Democratic Convention watch party. Come to the Renaissance Hotel, 6 Greenway Plaza East, Houston TX 77046 (map) to watch Obama’s acceptance speech on a really big screen.

Besides being at the best party outside of Denver, you are helping turn Harris County solid blue on November 4!  All net proceeds go directly to the HCDP Coordinated Campaign.  In fact, a check will be presented to Bill Kelly — General Manager of HCDP CC — at the conclusion of the night’s festivities.

We’ll have balloons, confetti, a band, and cheerleaders!  Bring your party hat and noise makers (or purchase at event).

Tickets start at just $30.  It looks like an early sell out!  If we do sell tickets at the door, however, they will be $40.  Reserved seating is available for only $50.

Candidate Spotlight: Mekisha Murray

Candidate for 351st District Court

Now an attorney in private practice, Mekisha spent five years fighting crime as a prosecutor in the Harris County District Attorney’s office. Mekisha worked her way through college and law school, earning a B.S. degree from the University of Houston and her law degree from South Texas College of Law, where she was a member of Law Review and Varsity Moot Court. Mekisha Murray is running for the 351st Criminal District Court because she wants to protect our community and bring fairness and balance back to the criminal court house. As a judge, Mekisha will be tough on those who victimize the people of Harris County, while respecting the rights of every individual who comes before the court. Mekisha Murray believes that all people deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.
